How I build every website with Astro and Cloudflare

I run several websites. I build every new one the same way: I write the site with Astro, keep the code on GitHub, and let Cloudflare Pages build and host it. This page is the map. Each part has its own page with the detail.

What I use

  • Astro to build the site.
  • GitHub to store the code.
  • Cloudflare Pages to build and host it, on the free plan.

How I got here

I used to host sites on Hostinger and Netlify. In October 2026 I moved growersguide.ca and zusashimaintenance.com off a Hostinger VPS and onto Cloudflare, then cancelled the VPS. The full story is in why I moved my sites from Hostinger to Cloudflare.

What went wrong

The Cloudflare free plan gives 500 Pages builds a month, shared across every project on the account, and runs one build at a time. In September 2026 one site used 416 of 452 builds in a month. [ALI TO CONFIRM: what was the 452: the whole account's total that month? And were most of the 416 preview builds?]

So I turned off preview deployments on that site and many other repos. Production still builds every time I merge to main. That is covered in what the Cloudflare free plan really gives you.

What it costs

Hosting on Cloudflare: $0 on the free plan. To get more builds I would have needed the Pro plan at about $20 a month. The cheaper Workers Paid plan ($5) does not raise the Pages build limit. I chose to fix my setup in code instead of paying.

Questions people ask

Do you build every site this way now?

Every new site, yes. I build it with Astro and deploy it on Cloudflare Pages. I used to host on Hostinger and Netlify. Here is why I moved off Hostinger.

Is the Cloudflare free plan enough?

So far, yes, but only after I changed how I use it. The free plan gives 500 Pages builds a month, shared across all your projects. In September 2026 one of my sites used most of that on its own. I explain what happened in the build limits page.

What does it cost to run?

I stay on the Cloudflare free plan. Getting more builds would need the Pro plan, which is about $20 a month. I chose to fix my setup instead of paying.
